Someone is going to call you about your case.
It will not be us. People who have just been defrauded are the most valuable list in the country, and it gets resold within days. The second call usually takes more than the first, because by then you want your money back badly enough to believe someone.
True no matter who is calling
- Nobody from this portal will ever telephone you.
- No police officer, bank or government body will ever ask you for an OTP, PIN, password or CVV.
- No official body charges a fee to process, speed up or recover your complaint.
- No real officer needs you to install an app or share your screen.
They are on the phone right now
Four moves, in order. Nothing here needs you to work out whether the caller is genuine. You never have to decide that on the call itself.
- Say you will call back on a published number, and hang up. A real officer will not object.
- Do not use any number they give you. Use the one on your case, or 1930.
- Send no money, no code and no document until you have called back.
- Then report the number here. It helps the next person more than it helps you.
How the call is built
The same five moves, in the same order, almost every time. Recognising the shape is more reliable than judging the person.
They already know about your case
Move 1They open with your name, the amount, sometimes your complaint number. It feels like proof they are official. It is not. These details travel with the resold list, and some are simply guessed back at you from what you say.
They offer to speed it up
Move 2A recovery agent, a special cell, a contact inside the bank. The real process has no fast lane that costs money, and nobody official will offer you one.
They ask for a fee first
Move 3Processing charge, court fee, GST, a refundable deposit. This is the entire point of the call. No government body charges you to pursue your own complaint.
They need remote access, or a code
Move 4An app to 'verify' your account, or the OTP that just arrived. This is how the first fraud worked too, and it is how this one finishes.
They make it urgent
Move 5The window is closing, the file is about to be shut, the money moves tonight. Urgency is the tell. A real officer will let you call them back.
Not sure whether a caller is real?
You never have to take their word for it, and you never have to be rude to find out.
Every real update on your complaint is written to your case here. If someone telephones claiming to be handling it, hang up and check the case. If the contact were genuine, it would be on the record.
